VÖ Juni 2011
Jacob Karlzon (piano, Rhodes, organ, keyboards, programming)
Hans Andersson (bass)
Jonas Holgersson (drums, percussion)
Mit freundlicher Unterstützung von:
Karlzon’s virtuosity and technical acumen are well known: Beauty meets
raw power in a myriad of nuances and colorings. A tasteful use of electronics
and elements
from pop and rock contribute to the enticing sound of this modern trio jazz,
as JK3 generously invite their audiences on an intense ride without ever sacrificing
their
artistic integrity.
JK3 constantly seeks new challenges, and THE BIG PICTURE shows the trio combining
influences from classical impressionism, ethnic music and American metal
with a modern Scandinavian jazz-lyricism, a pulsating, mesmerizing and immediate
beat, and the buzz of improvised music.
THE BIG PICTURE includes original music by Karlzon alongside a remarkable and highly personal version of “Maniac” from Flashdance.
Jacob Karlzon’s music resides in the intersections where Scandinavian expressions such as space, melancholy and sensitivity blend with heat and passion. He has been compared to such luminaries as Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans and Sweden’s own legendary pianist Jan Johansson. Since 1999, he has been director of music and composer for singer Viktoria Tolstoy’s band, with which he has recorded four albums. Jacob has played with many other leading jazz musicians, Billy Cobham, Kenny Wheeler, Bob Berg, Tim Hagans, Jeff Ballard, Norma Winstone, Cæcilie Norby, Nils Landgren, Silje Nergaard, Rigmor Gustafsson, to name but a few.
„Jacob has precisely all the qualities that can create magic. He has ten thousand fingers that paint magnificent and shimmering harmony. He has the strength and authority to make music that bores its way down to the Earth’s core. There he meets bassist Hans Andersson and drummer Jonas Holgersson in the midst of the boiling magma. The eruption that follows stretches out to the farthest outposts of the cosmos. Believe me – it was a long time ago since I heard anything like it - and I have heard a great deal in my time.“
Jönköpingsposten
„In this soundscapes you can let yourself fall in. And they take you in a beautiful and gripping mood. But they are not harmless or lovely, they appear like in trance, they have edges, they sound lyrical – and invite the listener to explore new musical worlds. (...) It is breathtaking how piano, bass and drums are raising when they play solos. (...) Everything sounds ordered, is clever notated and above all: played superb.“
Bayerischer Rundfunk
„It is my opinion that JK3 in many ways deserves the same international acclaim as E.S.T. Here you can discover all the openness, exuberance, and willingness to discreetly extend musical borders that characterised Esbjörn and his colleagues.“
Dig.se
„(...) because Jacob Karlzon 3 is one of the most exciting piano trios in general.“
Jazzthing
„A brilliant album with a force which, if you ask me, has been derived from rock.“
Värmlands Folkblad
„Jacob Karlzon from Sweden plays on his trio-album „The Big Picture“ besides the grand piano different keyboards and he also uses electro-programmed sounds. In „Utopian Folksong“ his keyboard sounds like an electric rock guitar. Afterwards Karlzon says goodbye with a contemplative piano solo. This album contains music from two different eras.“
